EURODRAM CALL FOR TRANSLATED PLAYS 2026/27

Eurodram – the European Network for Drama in Translation – invites submissions of translations of contemporary plays from and to European, Middle Eastern, Central Asian and Mediterranean languages into the languages represented by its various language committees.

In 2027, each participating Eurodram language committee will select three translations into the language of that committee. The selected translations will be shared across the network and beyond. Subject to available resources, the selected translations may also be presented through public readings in 2027 and recommended for publication and/or stage production.

Eligibility

  • Each committee will consider translations into its language of contemporary plays originally written in another language included in the network. Translations from languages of European origin that have developed distinct forms elsewhere – for example, American English or Latin American Spanish – will not be considered. The origin, nationality or current place of residence of the playwright and translator will not be taken into account.
  • Translations of plays that have already been published or staged may also be submitted.
  • Translations previously submitted to a Eurodram call will not be considered.
  • Optional for different committees: Translations must have been completed within the last ten years (i.e., after 1 January 2017).
  • Optional for different committees: A translator may submit one translation (or: up to five translations, but only one by the same translator may be selected by the committee).

Announcement of results: 21 March 2027 on the Eurodram’s website https://eurodram.org/

About Eurodram

Eurodram is a European network for contemporary drama and translation, comprising more than 300 members organised in 33 language committees. Its principal aim is to promote the translation of contemporary plays from Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia and the Mediterranean, making them available to theatre professionals and audiences in a spirit of independence, equality and linguistic diversity. In even-numbered years, each Eurodram language committee selects three original plays written in the language of that committee and recommends them for translation into other European, Middle Eastern, Central Asian and Mediterranean languages. In odd-numbered years, the committees select three outstanding translations into their respective languages, with a view to recommending them for publication and/or production.
