In September 2024, Festival partner Azerbaijan State Theatre YUĞ announced the production of a performance based on the winning play. “Argon” by Shabnam Kheyrulla will be staged during 2024-2025 season. At the same time “Argon” will be made as a radio drama with the support of the İctimai Radio.
The Azerbaijani Committee will announce the Translation Open Call until January 15, 2025. Due to the small number of available Azerbaijani translations of foreign plays, we will be able to accept applications, and committee members will have time to review and select the best translations till March 15, 2025. We see this open call as the creation of a database of existing Azerbaijani translations of foreign plays and an opportunity for communication between theatres, directors and translators in Azerbaijan.

English :
The English-language committee had a quieter year in 2024, which is normal for us on the « works to be translated » year, since we consider that a lot of works written in English are already being translated. To create the selection in these years, we consult the shortlists of existing new play awards, and invite playwrights from those lists to apply if they are interested. This year we invited 25 playwrights, and 11 opted to submit their plays to Eurodram.
We are excited this year to expand our committee by creating links to other English-language theater companies who are engaged in producing plays in translation. My company, the Cherry Arts, has been an informal host of the English Language committee for some years now, and we think creating more connections like this will help to raise the profile of Eurodram in the English-language world.
Eesti / Estonian :
No report provided.
Français / French :
The committee has kept on being coordinated by Joëlle Chambon, with the help of Gilles Boulan and Dominique Dolmieu.
It has gathered 31 members (26 women and 5 men), including 11 translators (related to Castillan, English, German, Italian and Portuguese) as well theater professionals (playwrights, actors, directors), scholars and a publisher. About half of this number fully participated to the readings.
For this session it has received 114 original texts. 51 were from female playwrights and 29 from male ones ; 32 texts had been already published ; 8 texts had already been translated in another language (Arabic, Czeck, English, German, Italian, Romanian).
Each text has been read at least by 3 members. Then a short list of 10 texts has been drafted. Then a meeting was held to have the final choice. Selected playwrights have been invited to join the committee for the session coming afterwards.
The French committee has created an official NGO to be able to ask for grants. It should be established in Lyon in the coming times.

Íslenska / Icelandic :
As this is our first time nominating Icelandic original texts to Eurodram, we chose to include works premiered in professional theatres over a five-year period (2019–2023) to ensure a robust and representative selection. Better late than never, as they say!
Here are the three selected plays from Iceland:
– Sjö ævintýri um skömm (Seven Fairy Tales of Shame) – Tyrfingur Tyrfingsson (2022)
– Með Guð í vasanum (With God in My Pocket) – María Reyndal (2023)
– Síðustu dagar Sæunnar (The Last Days of Sæunn) – Matthías Tryggvi Haraldsson (2022)
Our committee carefully considered the artistic quality, adaptability to other cultural contexts, and potential for translation when selecting these plays. All playwrights have been informed and are delighted with the opportunity.

The committee published a new call for original plays in October 2023. The Hungarian committee has received 69 original plays written in Hungarian. A dramatized reading of all selected plays by the actors of the Budapest based independent company, Stúdió K took place on 21st September 2024 (Hungarian Drama Day)(directed by Balázs Viktor).
Mакедонски / Macedonian :
The Macedonian committee of EURODRAM includes 4 members; coordinated by Ivan Dodovski; Facebook page: https://m.facebook.com/eurodram.mk/
In 2024 the Macedonian committee had a call and received 13 original plays; as usual, three were selected. On 10 June 2024, certificates were awarded to the authors of the 2024 selected plays at a special event organised within the programme of the Macedonian Theatre Festival Vojdan Chernodrinski in Prilep. On this occasion, excerpts were read from the selected plays of Eva Kamchevska and Ana Trpenovska respectively, followed by a brief discussion. Their collection of plays published in Macedonian by Perun Artis Publisher – Two Plays (2022) by Eva Kamchevska and Plays (2024) by Ana Trpenovska – have been also presented at the event. On 2 November 2024, both Eva Kamchevska and Ana Trpenovska had their presentation with a stage reading of play excerpt followed by a brief Q&A session as part of the event ‘New plays, new worlds’ organised within the programme of the Kosovo & Albania Theatre Showcase held in Tirana. The selected play Couples by Ana Trpenoska had its stage premiere on 18 May 2024 at Dramski Theatre in Skopje. See details (in Macedonian) here. Two members of the Macedonian committee, Ivan Dodovski and Katarina Kocevska, have attended the Eurodram General Assembly meeting in Tirana, on 31 October and 1 November 2024.
Norsk / Norwegian :
The Norwegian Committee is a young and emerging committee. The Real kick-of took place after the 2021 GA in Madrid where we leaped from 2 to 9 members and realized our very first selection of plays in the native language of our committee. And will try to realize our fourth in 2024/25 for plays translated into Norwegian. Even though there could be just a few to choose between. We’ve realized that translations from foreign languages are poor in Norway and with few grants. This is a topic to be worked on. We also need to work on the consolidation of the committee, try and get official organisations and decision makers to get involved, and first of all get to know about the EURODRAM Network, which is very little known in Scandinavia. As well as creating a legal body, and FB- page or other. We’re also trying to make connexions in order to organise the Eurodram GA in 2026( earliest, and if to early 2027 would be more adequate, so that no one looses time and means….).
Norway is a very expensive country, and that taken into consideration, the GA needs to be well prepared for the best of all.
Polski / Polish :
In 2024, the Polish committee of Eurodram consisted of seven members, whose names are listed on the official Eurodram website. While no call was issued for original works written in Polish that year, a call for translations was launched in September, with a submission deadline of December 31, 2024. This call was disseminated in Poland, France, and Canada. The selected works will be announced in March 2025.
Português / Portuguese :
In 2024 the Portuguese committee of Eurodram included 7 members, which Fernando Matos Oliveira and Nuno M Cardoso were coordinators, and Constança Carvalho Homem, Fernanda Vieira Fernandes, Guilhermina Jorge, Jorge Louraço Figueira e José António Costa Ideias, members of the jury. We are still going to open the call for translations until the end of this year, to receive the texts in the beginning of 2025. There was an open call for original texts and the PT Committee received 26 texts written originally in Portuguese.
Русский / Russian (Maria Kroupnik) :

The Finnish language committee is coordinated by Post Theatre Collective since 2019. The collective selects for each round a new selection committee where different experts from the Finnish theatre field evaluate the plays received through the open calls.
The situation in Finland is not so rose at the moment, the government is cutting big time the cultural budget and all the small groups are threatened to disappear if the cuts will hit their activities, including us.
This is the Finnish language Committee selection for 2024. The selection was made by Heidi Backström and Maria Säkö. The committee received 25 plays.
★ Arni Rajamäki- Alku keskikohta loppu (Beginning Middle End) 2021

Türkçe / Turkish :
Well, it is not so easy for me to run Turkish committee. When the committee members did not respond to my e-mail on the date we made the traditional call every year, for the 2024 selection, I wanted to contact them again a few moths later. And we decided to make to call in May, close it in June, and we planned to announce the selection in July, so one month after the call. The turnout was the highest ever. We received 59 texts. Only 2 of the 4 members who said they would participate in the evaluation did. And since they could not carry out the evaluation in the summer months, we had to announce the evaluation results at the end of September and the beginning of October.

Valeryi Puzik and Andy Iva are soldiers now and defend us and you at the front. The war to destroy Ukraine and the genocide of the Ukrainian people, carried out by the Russian Federation and the Russian people, continues. We are inside and every day there are fewer of us, and more destructions and deaths. Every day the war is getting closer to the borders of other European countries.
