general 2026 call

EURODRAM – THE EUROPEAN NETWORK FOR DRAMA IN TRANSLATION

2026 CALL FOR TRANSLATED PLAYS

Eurodram – the European Network for Drama in Translation – invites submissions of translations of contemporary plays from and to European, Middle Eastern, Central Asian and Mediterranean languages into the languages represented by its various language committees.

In 2027, each participating Eurodram language committee will select three outstanding translations into the language of that committee. The selected translations will be shared across the network. Subject to available resources, the selected translations may also be presented through public readings in 2027 and recommended for publication and/or stage production.

Eligibility

  • Each committee will consider translations into its language of contemporary plays originally written in another European, Middle Eastern, Central Asian or Mediterranean language. Translations from languages of European origin that have developed distinct forms elsewhere – for example, American English or Latin American Spanish – will not be considered. The origin, nationality or current place of residence of the playwright and translator will not be taken into account.
  • Translations must have been completed within the last ten years (i.e., after 1 January 2017).
  • A translator may submit up to five translations, but only one by the same translator may be selected by the committee.
  • Translations previously submitted to a Eurodram call will not be considered.

Selection criteria

The principal selection criteria are the quality of the translation and the originality and quality of the play. Translations of plays that have already been published or staged may also be submitted.

Submission procedure

Translations must be submitted electronically to the relevant Eurodram language committee, using the contact address published for that committee on the Eurodram website. Each translation must be sent as a separate document, named after the translated title of the play, in .doc format. A separate document must also be included for each translation, providing the following information:

  1. the translator’s full name and a short biography of no more than 100 words;
  2. the playwright’s full name and a short biography of no more than 100 words;
  3. the source language, and the date and place of translation;
  4. the date and place in which the play was written, together with basic information about any previous productions or publications;
  5. a synopsis of the play of no more than 100 words;
  6. any other relevant information about the play or the translation

Submission deadline: 15 December 2026.

 Announcement of results: 21 March 2027 on the Eurodram’s website https://eurodram.org/

About Eurodram

Eurodram is a European network for contemporary drama and translation, comprising more than 300 members organised in 33 language committees. Its principal aim is to promote the translation of contemporary plays from Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia and the Mediterranean, making them available to theatre professionals and audiences in a spirit of independence, equality and linguistic diversity. In even-numbered years, each Eurodram language committee selects three original plays written in the language of that committee and recommends them for translation into other European, Middle Eastern, Central Asian and Mediterranean languages. In odd-numbered years, the committees select three outstanding translations into their respective languages, with a view to recommending them for publication and/or production.
